UPCOMING 2026 EAS EVENTS:

Saturday February 21st EAS meeting – EVERETT MAIN Library Meeting Room – first floor behind Children's section

EAS February 21st Meeting - 'The Milky Way - A Storm of stars'

presented by Shane Larson

A discussion on the discovery of the Milky Way, how our perceptions of it constantly shape and change our understanding of other galaxies, and the Cosmos on much larger scales.
For most of human history, we have been aware of the Milky Way, but it is comparatively recent that we have come to understand the Milky Way is our parent galaxy, a vast swirling storm of stars 10 billion years in the making.
The story of how we came to understand our home galaxy is one of the central threads in the story of how we have come to understand the Universe far beyond.
Historically, our ideas about the nature and structure of the Cosmos have grown out of our attempts to understand the Milky Way.
For hundreds of years, we didn't know what the Milky Way was, or even that there were other galaxies besides the Milky Way.
There are still some secrets the galaxy hides from us, providing astronomers with puzzles and challenges to work on for many years to come.

Also, EAS starparty observing night host Ron Tam presented a number of deepsky images taken at his starparty location near Panther Lake.

Location: Everett MAIN LIBRARY - in the first floor meeting room, near the Childrens' section
Time:       Social hour at 2 pm,  Presentation at 3 pm

EAS member Ron Tam has offered a flexible opportunity to EAS members to come to his home north of Snohomish near Panther Lake
for observing on clear weekend evenings, and for EAS star parties.
Anyone wishing to do so needs to contact him in advance and confirm available dates, and let him know if plans change.
“Our place is open for star parties any Saturday except weekends of the Full Moon.
People can call to get weather conditions or to confirm that there is a star party.
They can e-mail me too (tam1951 at frontier.com) but I don't check my email daily.
They can email me for directions if they have never been out here.”
Listed below are proposed dates for planned EAS star parties at my *Ron Tam’s place, depending upon the weather, of course.
Call Ron about spur-of-the-moment observing, such as when we have a run of clear days but no scheduled event...
